From the Pastor’s Desk

By Fr. Eduardo Quintero, CS

I cordially greet you, dear parishioners.

As you all know, we are starting a ministry at St Ann’s Parish. It is the richness of our charism, the experience of our Religious Congregation and Bishop Scalabrini’s vision that we eagerly want to share as we journey together as a Parish community.

Allow me to take advantage of St Ann’s Feast Day to write to you. St Anne & St Joachim are the Parents of the Blessed Virgin Mary. A tradition that began in the Second century gives these names to the parents of the BVM. Joachim means “God grants”, while Ann means “grace”. So virtue and grace mingle powerfully in this couple’s life.

Through their intercession many graces may be granted to us! Happy feast day to you all!

Paraphrasing St Augustine’s statement (A Bishop I am for you; a Christian I am with you), I also want to introduce myself to you as a Pastor (shepherd) and a server. Let us help each other reach holiness and together let us be a reflection of God’s love and mercy.

We have a heart for migrants, so does St Ann’s by hosting Spanish & Korean Masses, by participating in the Refugee Program, by promoting varied activities with our Seasonal Farm Workers, by having open arms for all God’s children. Please help us in serving the “stranger” and in making them feel at home, so that God may always be seen and welcomed in them.

We now have an AED

We now have an AED which is located in the hallway between the Parish Centre and Religious Education Office.

An automated external defibrillator (AED) is a portable electronic device that automatically diagnoses life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias and is able to treat them through defibrillation, the application of electricity which stops the arrhythmia, allowing the heart to reestablish an effective rhythm. With simple audio and visual commands, AEDs are designed to be simple to use for the layperson.

Survey of Daycare Needs of St. Ann’s and St. James’ Parishes.

Dear Parents / Parishioners,

St. Ann’s Parish is proposing to open a Catholic Daycare in the Parish Center in the fall of 2019, to accommodate the needs of the families of St. Ann’s and St. James. This is NOT intended to replace the existing preschool at St. Ann’s or Thunder Club at St. James school but to coordinate activities where appropriate.  To determine the needs of our parish communities for a daycare, we are conducting a survey.

We are proposing to provide a quality, non-profit daycare for preschool children ages 30months to 5 years, Monday to Friday from 7: 00a.m to 6:00 p.m.

The daycare will be faith- based, inclusive and will nurture the needs of the “whole” child. The program cost is to be determined later.

Please complete the Survey by July 30, 2018 at the following link. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/3NNDKD6

Thank you for taking the time to fill out this survey.

St. Ann’s Parish and The Carmelite Missionary Sisters of St. Therese of the Child Jesus.
